Born and raised in Malaysia, Cabie now resides in Singapore, where she worked first in the beauty and fashion industries and then for sixteen years as a curator at a fine art gallery specializing in Modern Chinese art. A natural people-person with a longstanding commitment to community service and environmental preservation, she began to question matters of life and death as a teenager. In 2013 she read Khyentse Norbu's What Makes You Not a Buddhist, an encounter that reshaped her path and deepened her dedication to the Dharma and to her guru.
Cabie first joined 84000 as a volunteer in 2017, representing the organization at teaching events across Asia and helping newcomers become familiar with its work and vision. She joined the team in June 2020. Outside of work, she is a devoted reader and traveler who now spends much of her time caring for her dog and dreaming of trekking to mountain summits where she might read the sūtras aloud.
One passage she returns to, from 84000's translations, captures what the work means to her:
"Listen very well and bear this in mind as I explain. What is the fundamental exposition of dependent arising? It is thus: if this exists, that arises; by this having been produced, that is produced." - Toh 211, Teaching the Fundamental Exposition and Detailed Analysis of Dependent Arising, 1.3.
For Cabie, these lines are inseparable from the mission itself:
"When I saw this passage, my first thought was how significant it is that another text has been translated and made available for future generations—offering the wisdom of the Buddha to anyone and everyone, for free. I can't imagine a more meaningful role than contributing to 84000 in my own small way. This mission is ongoing, at least within my lifetime, ensuring that these teachings continue to be revealed and cherished."
