When the merchant Anāthapiṇḍada (“Giver to the Unprotected”) sought to purchase a park where the Buddha could teach, Prince Jeta set a legendary price: to cover every inch of the ground in gold.
Anāthapiṇḍada did so without hesitation. Moved by this devotion, Prince Jeta matched the gift by donating the remaining land and a magnificent gateway. This park, Jetavana, became the sanctuary where many of the Buddha’s most profound discourses were first spoken.
Today, our Matching Funds sponsors act as modern-day Anāthapiṇḍadas. They provide the "golden ground" that supports and amplifies the devotion of our community.
