84000 Research Editor Dr. Rory Lindsay is teaching a seminar on Tibetan Buddhist canons at the University of Toronto, with students researching and writing on translations from the 84000 Reading Room.
Dates: Spring 2026 Semester
84000 Research Editor Dr. Rory Lindsay is teaching Tibetan Buddhist Canons, a fourth-year undergraduate and graduate seminar at the University of Toronto. The course explores Tibetan Buddhism through close readings of canonical sources translated by 84000, giving students direct access to primary texts as the foundation for research, presentation, and writing.
Students will select an 84000 translation to study in depth, while also engaging with lesser-known canonical materials, traditional Tibetan printing practices, and the ritual functions of the canon in Tibetan Buddhist communities.
The course is open to all University of Toronto students.
