A new publication from Mangalam Press features the work of 84000 Research Editor Dr. Nathaniel Rich. Guardians of the Dharma: The Sixteen Arhats in Tibet explores the role of the Sixteen Elders — arhats selected by the Buddha to remain in this world after his passing and protect the teachings until the coming of the next Buddha — in the literature, art, and religious practices of Tibet and the Himalayan region.
The volume includes two well-known Tibetan liturgies invoking the Elders, translated by Nathaniel Rich and Adam Pearcey, alongside adapted stories from an out-of-print collection by Loden Sherap Dagyab and scholarly essays by Joie Szu-Chiao Chen and Ariana Maki.
